Northern Virginia Building Industry Association (NVBIA) is committed to serving the housing industry in the Northern Virginia area. Northern Virginia Association of Realtors (NVAR) serves as the voice for Real Estate in Northern Virginia and provides a variety of services to its members including educational opportunities, professional standards enforcement, market statistics, legislative reviews, and issues lobbying. Urban Land Institute (ULI) initiates research that anticipates emerging land use trends and issues, proposing creative solutions based on that research. Financial Agencies
Council of Development Finance Agencies (CDFA) is a national association dedicated to the advancement of development finance concerns and interests. Members are state, county and municipal development finance agencies and authorities that provide or otherwise support economic development financing programs, including tax-exempt and taxable bonds, credit enhancement programs, and direct debt and equity investments and other organizations interested in economic development finance.

Small Business Administration (SBA) provides support to small businesses in an effort to maintain and strengthen the nation’s economy by enabling the establishment and viability of small businesses thereby assisting in the economic development of communities. The SBA does not make loans directly to small businesses but does help to educate and prepare the business owner to apply for a loan through a financial institution or bank. The SBA then acts as a guarantor on the bank loan.

Small Business Development Centers (SBDCs) are partnerships primarily between the government and colleges/universities administered by the Small Business Administration and aims at giving educational services for small business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs.
The Mason Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at George Mason University – Mason Enterprise Center assists small business owners in Fairfax, Arlington, and Prince William Counties. They provide monthly one-on-one counseling services to small businesses at no cost with over 4,000 clients. Mason SBDC assisted over 480 local businesses in 2010.

Procurement Technical Assistance Program (PTAP) is a non-profit program funded by the Defense Logistics Agency and George Mason University located at the George Mason University – Mason Enterprise Center. PTAP exists to increase contracting activity between small businesses, prime government contractors and the federal government in an effort to generate employment and improve the general economy of a locality by assisting business firms in obtaining and performing under DoD, other federal agencies, and state and local government contracts.

Virginia Department of Business Assistance (VDBA) provides a one-stop-service for technical assistance related to business formation, access to capital, and workforce development. VDBA works with existing businesses as they grow their workforce, and mentors entrepreneurs from ideas to launching their first business venture. VDBA’s mission is to deliver economic development programs and services that help create new jobs, retain existing jobs, spur new investment, and encourage new business formation.

Central Fairfax Chamber of Commerce (CFCC) represents businesses throughout the Fairfax region and sponsors events to enhance member businesses. The Chamber is committed to forming strong bonds with the City of Fairfax, the County of Fairfax, and other area chambers of commerce and associations. “Better business” is the goal by providing Small Business Focus and Big Business Results to businesses and communities.

Economic Development Authorities
Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA) promotes Fairfax County as one of the world’s best business locations. The FCEDA is an independent authority chartered by the Commonwealth of Virginia. A seven-member board of Fairfax County business leaders oversees the work of the authority. The FCEDA mission is “to foster and promote the governmental, social, educational, and environmental infrastructure that will make Fairfax County a world-class 21st-century business center and the global capital of the knowledge industry.”

City of Fairfax Economic Development Authority (EDA) in conjunction with the City Council fosters and stimulates economic development and redevelopment within the City of Fairfax, Virginia. To carry out this purpose, the EDA will support bond financing for projects within its powers as granted by the Virginia General Assembly and work with the City’s Economic Development Office (EDO) to advance business recruiting and expansion efforts. Further, the EDA and EDO will facilitate small business improvement and incubation, as well as promote an active dialogue within the business community, all in partnership with area business and educational resources
